Category: Cell Phone Talk
I tried using a celphone that had Mobile Speak and found it difficult to go on the internet. Which cellphone is the best one for this purpose. I don't want a cellphone that needs Mobile Speaks or Talks because I find them difficult to go on the internet. I've heard of the IPhone but I don't think that I would like it because I had a macbook once and I returned it because I find windows and Jaws much easier than mac and Voice Over. I heard that Android has a screen reader but I don't know if its as easy as jaws to go on the internet on a windows computer. I've also heard of Oratio for Black Berry but I haven't heard if it's as easy to go to the internet as Jaws on a windows computer.
I am going to have to burst your bubble here, with out voiceover on an Iphone, talks for windows and simbeon or moble speak, your screwed!
Okay so if I'm screwed then and have no choice but to accept Voice Over, Mobile Speak, or Talks then which one is the easiest to go on the internet?
I have a feeling that's a relaive thing. What may be easy for one person won't be for another. I tried both Talks and Mobile SPeak on te internet and neither worked for me. And while navigating the touch screen of my IPod Touch is still growing on mesomewhat I still found it easier to browse the web with the IPod and by extention the IPhone since I assume they operate in much the same way. And it's probably much cheaper in the long run to go with the IPhone since doing i the Talks or Mobile Speak way you have to pay the purchase price of whatever phone plus the price of the screen reader. And unless you're getting MS through AT&T you can't get a discount on MS unless I'm much mistaken. And Mobile Speak costs upwards of 200 bucks if not more. I currently use it on a Motorola Q9H phone and have for almost the past two years. Long enough for me to decide that neither Mobile Speak nor the particular phone are for me. And I'm neither able nor willing to keep paying for extra screen readers each time I get a new phone. So my only option is the IPhone since I'm not particlarly impressed yet with Droid's attempts at accessibility. And don't even get me started on those Verizon LG phones.
I would say from personal experience that using the web on a Nokia N86 with Talks version 5 on it was very easy for me. An important feature to use when first trying out the internet with talks is the key board learn feature. It is the talks key plus the number zero. this was very helpful for me, and showed me what each of the functions of the number keys was. Each key is assigned to a quick navigation feature to help make internet browsing much quicker and more efficient. I was able to use my N86 on facebook mobiles website, and the zone with ease. In terms of the iPhone, safari on the iPhone is slightly more difficult to use then Talks on a Nokia phone, but it is still generally easy to use once you get the hang of it. The roter feature allows you to switch between navigation elements such as heading, links, form fields, etc to move about the page. In summary, I would say that using talks on a phone is the simplest and most efficient way to navigate the web on a phone, but the iPhone comes in a close second place. if you have further questions, feel free to post them here, or private message me.
hmm not sure how to go about this, moble speak has a very intuitive jester methid and I do love it when surfing the web. Kay here goes, the Iphone has the most supported apps as far as Voiceover goes and I am not a talks fan so asking me how talks is on the web goes out the window. Truethfully its the Iphone with a whole lot of accessible apps, learn a droid, or go with to dying platforms. This will bee your decition to make. What ever you do I wish you well.
I use talks 5 on an N86 as well. Works great on the web. Total piece of cake. I never could make the web work well with Mobile Speak, but to be fair, it was an older version and I've read that it works better now. But, if you give the iPhone a chance, it's probably the most economical choice since there's no screen reader to buy. Everyone I know who has one loves it and they all seem to do just fine on the web. Keep an open mind about the touch screen and voice over. I've only done some tinkering, but it is pretty intuitive once you get the basics down. You can always pair it with a bluetooth keyboard if text entry is a concern. Good luck.
Also keep in mind, we are moving away from web based applications to app that are stand alone like slacker radeo, Iheart radeo and etc. This is why I say Iphone, after that good luck in finding your way through this battle of OS platforms its hecked and ya we as users pay in the end when a platform is finally killed off.
And if Apple wants to do as Nokia has done, Apple will distribute the iPhone on all the carriers. You can get a Nokia phone on all GSM carriers. Doing anything less is behaving like a bunch of artsy fartsy boutique people. There are many reasons why many different people choose carriers, and for most, the last on the list is what phone. Maybe if you're first unencumbered or independently wealthy, second blind, and third have no dependents, you can do this. For the rest of us who first off all have no dependents, second we work for a living, and third maybe we're blind maybe something else, the priorities cause us to choose a different carrier.
Doing this right would mean more iPhone sales, not fewer. Definitely the future is in the apps, and if not the fully walled-garden approach, at least the partially-walled garden approach known as Android. I concur, although Symbian still has a huge market share, it's dying and even dumb phones will have some app access soon.
If it were me, I'd menu-ize the data structure so you could pay for full, apps-only (include your typical send / receive pics / small packets) and apps + tiered streaming. Streaming is the luxury component and for those who want it, they should pay for it, not the rest of us.
Having used and n86 as well as other nokias with both talks and mobile speak, they are about the same for me didn't really have a preferance between the two, its 6 one way half a dozen the other, this is also comparing talks 5 and mobile speak 4.5. That being said i find the web experience on the iPhone to be a snappier, its a faster phone with better processor and etc so things load alot faster and there is very little if no lag. text entry is the hardest part to get used to at first as well as using the router to change navigational elements but hey pocket bluetooth keyboards are $20 or so and it will be like having a phone with a detachable slide out keyboard. So being someone who used both systems for months as my only phone ona daily basis and not just someoen who tried one for a little bit while using another one daily i say the iPhone is a better option in the long run. Also the availability of apps make things easier, like for example i find it easier to use the ebay app than browsing the site . Also Apple have to reach specific deals with other carriers to get the iPhone on the network... for example the visual voicemail has to be supported by the carrier as well. and apple isn't willing to let carriers put their logos or there own bloatware apps and limit the phone in any way .. something apple is the only handset maker to prevent from doing, in order to get this unique deal they had to give AT&T a 5 year exclusive, They went to verizon first and verizon wasn['t interested in apple rewriting the rules of a handset makers relationship with a carrier and sent them packing at&t took a chance and lucked out .. i am sure in 2011 and oing forward the iPhone will offically be available on more carriers in the states
I am so hoping that t-mobile gets the IPhone, if so I am there!!!. I spoke to a t-mobile rep and they told me its a toss up between verizon and t-mobile.
Here's to T-mobile getting an iPhone!
Ok So no Wiindows mobile, no cimbian, no iPhone, and no droid. Hm, if you can find another phone let me know.
The droid is a sad attempt for accessibility, that's all I'm going to say about that.
Windows mobile is ok, if you want a screen reader which in my opinion slurs its words, and whose operating system, namely windows mobile, crashes and is very sluggish, then that is the phone for you. Nokias are ok, but very limited in what they can do, good luck if you can find a nokia phone. I went into every Cingular store at that time back in 2007 with a long ass list of phones asking them if they had them and they said no and grew increasingly annoyed as I read down the list.
The iphone is the best option because as others have said, there are most supported apps, surfing the web is very easy and intuitive, and further more, with touch typing you'll find yourself quickly adapting to the phone's interface.
Outside of that, you're, well, shit out of luck :P
actually there is a phone called the HD2 that has a 1 gig processor its pretty quick. If I can nto a get an Iphone I will get a HD2.
I just got the iPhone4.
yappers! Persevere Warrior I have notice and I like that phone. Just not willing to go to A T and T to just get a Iphone. At last, I will leave that arguement alone.
